Distribution Netflix-Style

Netflix is dropping another movie in an envelope and shipping it ... to theaters.
Apparently shipping DVDs to home users is not enough - Netflix is distributing to theaters. This is not a bad thing, and makes them even more attractive to indie producers as a distributor.
Considering that even the major film studios make more money in home DVD release than in theatrical release, this is eminently sensible. Really, the theater system is on its way out - DVD and internet release are the future of audiovisual media.
All we need now is a convenient Submission Guidelines page on Netflix.com.

Still, company generally sees theatrical as "a promotional platform that will put the film on critics' maps and create awareness," rather than as an actual revenue generator.
