Sorry for dropping off the face of the net; having computer problems, am going to have to reinstall opsys. Again. :P Hopefully it won’t take too many days to get everything restored and reinstalled.

Hopefully this is almost fixed; a friend is coming over Monday to help me figure out FDisk, which should :: fingers crossed :: allow me to go ahead and do the system recovery like I was trying to do in the first place.

Hi there,
I notice you have your own personal domain. I'm trying to figure out how to redirect my livejournal to my personal blog site because while I hate the livejournal interface, I don't want to lose what readership I have here.
So far, I haven't found anything like that.
But it seems you have managed to at least duplicate your entries to livejournal. Tell me how please?

I talked about the WordPress plugin (http://ebroder.net/livejournal-crossposter/) I'm using to crosspost to LJ in this entry (http://www.chrystalline.com/2007/07/spam-plugins-features). If you are using or want to use WordPress (http://www.wordpress.org), the plugin will help. You can set preferences on comment ability and so forth - I allow commenting at both, because the people who read what I write are more likely to comment on LJ, and the RSS feed doesn't send comment notification because it can be set up by anyone with a paid account; the syndicated blogger may not have an LJ at all.

If the posting interface is the only part you dislike, you might try this (http://semagic.livejournal.com/), which seems to be popping up in discussions here and there as a way of handling the potential fandom migration in the aftermath of LJ's sudden spastic "we'll delete you, no we won't, yes we will" handling of Harry Potter fandom. Saves you the cost and trouble of domain and hosting, if you're otherwise happy to stick with LJ, though it sounds as if you already have the site/host anyway. I haven't used Semagic, so I have no real opinion on it as yet.

You may also find this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/URL_redirection) useful.

You're not my usual type of visitor; am I succeeding in becoming a bit more interesting?

I have thought about using WordPress (since I found out Blogger doesn't seem to publish blogs to personal domains anymore only allowing domains to redirect to your Blogger blog) so I might just go that route. I did look into redirects but I don't have enough control over my livejournal to implement any of the more advanced redirects I prefer (so I don't need to rely on my visitor to decide if they want to click an extra link to see my blog).
LOL I wouldn't say you're uninteresting but you simply showed up about 10th in my Google search for "redirecting my livejournal to personal domain". Although your catchphrase Sparkly Purple Vanilla Girl did draw the eye. :P

Thanks for all the info!

LJ will do that, too, for paid accounts; I had that for a while before I switched over. Wasn't enough for me, either; same with the click to redirect. Actually, it sounds like you have a lot of the same reasons for switching to your own host that I did. Partly I wanted to have more control over the template/theme, too. I start with an existing theme and hack it up; my current theme looks almost nothing like how it started:)

Ah. That'll do it, too. I was just curious, because I couldn't see any obvious connections; we're not in any of the same groups or interests (well, comics, but that's it) and none of the same friends. I don't get a lot of comments, so I sometimes wonder if anyone but my personal buddies actually read what I write.

My friends gave me that nickname in college because those are three of my favorite things. I liked it, so I figured it was as good a subtitle as any:)
